Hockey : Where is India?

No hockey club in India ?

I don’t think many of us would have heard bout this tournament,”Asian Champion Club Cup”. This tournament is organized by Asian Hockey Federation to find out the best hockey club in Asia. Winner of this cup participates in “Hockey World Clubs Championship” which started in the year 2009.

No hockey club in India ?

This tournament was first introduced in 1991 and the first edition was played in Malaysia. The fourth edition of this tournament is being played in Sri Lanka this year and it has clubs from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan. But there is no Indian club to represent in this tournament.

Hockey India which claims that it is doing good for hockey cannot even find a single club which will represent the country in this tournament. What is the difference between the old federation and the new federation? Hockey India is trying to beat IHF in inefficiency.

In all the four editions India has never been represented by any of the club. This tournament started in 1991 and still in 2010 there is no team to participate. And Hockey India should know that the winner of this tournament will play in the World Club Championship which means the club will play against the winners of prestigious EHL.

Don’t know what lies in the future of Indian hockey if they cannot send a club team to a tournament…
