Despite being nominated for the AFC Member Association of the Year 2013 for Grassroots Football Award, the AIFF (All India Football Federation) missed out on the accolade to their Japanese counterparts.
This new award has been started this year with three member associations being nominated, JFA (Japan Football Association), AIFF and VFF (Vietnam Football Federation).
JFA turned to be the eventual winner at the annual AFC Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday as they were rewarded for their efforts in urging the growth of grassroots football in the country.
This award was given on several factors such as its grassroots structure and philosophy/policy, links with partners for grassroots football development, grassroots technical programmes and activities, programmes/activities on social responsibility in grassroots, exchange programmes and special developmental/promotional activities during the this calendar year.
AFC earlier had marked 2013 as AFC Grassroots Year while May 15 had been designated as AFC Grassroots Day.
