Australia and India will go head-to-head in the second game of the AFC Asian Cup 2024 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf in Ranchi on Saturday, January 13.

Australia are ranked 25th, the highest-ranked team among the Group B contenders. The last and only time Australia took on India in the AFC Asian Cup was in 2011 when they came out on top 4-0. They enter this contest as hot favourites, leading 5-3 overall.

India, meanwhile, are ranked 102nd. They have a huge mountain to climb on their way to qualify for the Round of 16. After the Australia game, they lock horns against Uzbekistan, which will also a tough ask for the men in blue. Igor Stimac’s side will hope to put their best foot forward in this much-awaited contest.

He has 12 goals in 33 games for the Socceroos and has accumulated 11 goals for Machida Zelvia last season.

Most importantly, Chhetri played 861 minutes in the 2023-24 season of the ISL, the most by anyone in the current squad. He scored an average of 0.31 goals every 90 minutes.
