English Championship outfit Leicester City have extended Brandon Fernandes’ trial by one week and the 18-year-old is hoping that the Foxes take a decision on him by Saturday.
After having a trial at English Premier League club Reading FC, Brandon got an opportunity to have a two-week trial at Leicester City but Brandon’s father Jaju confirmed to sportskeeda on Sunday that the teenager’s trial has been extended by a week.
“It has been a good experience so far playing with higher standard players and getting to learn different things at every single session. (The trial will be for) another week till Saturday and hopefully they will make their decision by then,” Brandon told sportskeeda in an exclusive chat.
Following a two-week trial at Reading, there were rumours that the EPL club were going to make an offer worth $1m but Brandon’s agent John Steptoe and father Jaju denied it immediately. Reading’s football director Nick Hammond however praised Brandon and promised to monitor his progress.
Brandon has been training with the Under-21 developmental side of Leicester City and admitted that it wasn’t easy initially to have sessions with older players but added that the style of play at Leicester suits him more than the one at Reading.
“Initially it was a bit difficult but as the days went by I started coping and it got better. It has been a similar sort of trial so far but the thing is Leicester pass the ball more and it suits me. At Reading it was more of direct-style football,” the former Salgaocar youngster, who is represented by ASD Cape Town, said.
Brandon, who has represented India at every age-group level up to the U-19s, has also started getting used to life off the field in the city of Leicester, which has a healthy Indian population.
He attended Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at their King Power Stadium on Saturday and this one-week extension of the trial possibly increases his chances of impressing the coaches at Leicester and eventually get the dream move.
But it remains to be seen whether Brandon is able to get a work permit although the youngster stated that his agent has assured him that there won’t be any problems on that front once Leicester makes an offer.
