Churchill Brothers' Melroy Fernandes returns to Sporting Clube de Goa

Sporting Clube de Goa - Melroy Fernandes

Goa’s Santosh trophy goalkeeper Melroy Fernandes has made a return to Sporting Clube de Goa after leaving Churchill Brothers SC in Panjim on Saturday.

After representing Salgaocar in the Under-16 category, Melroy moved on to successfully captain Sporting Clube de Goa to win the GFA Under-18 title in 2010 and then he got transferred to Churchill Brothers.

“I had a very good time at Churchill Brothers and learned a lot from veteran goalkeeper Felix D’Souza. I have watched Sporting Goa promote a lot of their talented junior players and this is what has encouraged me to return,” stated Melroy.

Felix is his role model in India, but Melroy is also quick to assert that he follows Real Madrid Custodian Iker Casillas with a keen eye.

The tall 21-year-old goalkeeper, hailing from Dramapur, has had an exciting twelve months where he was scouted at the start of the season playing in an exhibition match and was offered a trial in Macau with Casa de Portugal.

Melroy enjoyed the Far East experience immensely, but felt that his career would progress further in India and he was not wrong. In February, he received a man-of the match award for his rock-solid performance under the bar for Goa against Tamil Nadu in the Santosh trophy.

“We are very happy to have Melroy Fernandes back at the club and firmly believe with his leadership and dedication he can become a real asset,” remarked Sporting Clube de Goa president Peter Vaz.
