Defending I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC, who are currently bottom of the league, have signed Costa Rica striker Cristian Lagos Navarro to strengthen their failing forward line in which the numerous foreigners haven’t been able to click this season.
In a Deportivo Saprissa press release Cristian Lagos stated, “I’m happy and grateful to Saprissa because I was provided all the help to join this big Indian team, the opportunity to grow in all areas of my life is also important to me and I am excited about this new challenge.”
29-year-old Cristian Lagos born in Osa, Costa Rica started his career at Brujas FC, LD Alajuelense before making his breakthrough at Santos de Guápiles when he top scored in the Costa Rican Primera División. He had a high profile transfer to Deportivo Saprissa, but couldn’t really make and therefore moved back to Santos de Guápiles were he was amongst the goals again.
Cristian Lagos has played twice for the Costa Rica national team and hopes to make it to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Therefore he was searching for a new club with offers from within Costa Rica, besides foreign countries like Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Thailand; but he decided to come to India and join Churchill Brothers.
Cristian Lagos wants to play a good first half of 2014 in the Indian I-League to show himself to the Costa Rica management and earn a place in the Costa Rica national team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
