I-League runners-up East Bengal have finally signed a quality goalkeeper in Subhasish Roy Chowdhury. Roy Chowdhury played for Kolkata’s Hero Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata in the inaugural Indian Super League and was praised by many for his spectacular performances.
But, he was benched during the later stages of the tournament after Armenian goalkeeper Apoula Edima Edel Bete was promoted to the first team.
The 28-year-old, who hails from Kolkata, started his career with East Bengal in 2004. But the following year he had joined Mahindra United. And from 2010 to 2014, he played for Dempo mostly as a reserve keeper under East Bengal’s current coach Armando Colaso. He has also won 4 caps for India between 2008 and 2012.
East Bengal has three goalkeepers at the moment in Abhijit Mondal, Abhra Mondal and Luis Barreto. But they seem to be off coloured to play as a first choice keeper and hence Subhasish is a great and wise buy for the Kolkatan club.
