The debut season of the Indian Super League has got off to a flying start, and if there were ever any doubts about the success of this new venture, the attendance figures that were released have put them to rest.Figures show that the ISL is the most attended football league in Asia, the fifth most attended football league in the world, and the ninth most popular global league across all sports. The social media presence of the ISL teams has complimented the buzz of the tournament as well.Averaging more than 23,000, stadium attendance in the ISL has been greater than the numbers achieved by several established overseas leagues. The Indian Super League is ahead of the Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, Chinese Super League, A-League, J-League, and Major League Soccer.Atletico de Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium registered the highest crowd of 65,000 on October 12 when Mumbai City came visiting, and it is Pune City’s Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex which has the dubious honour of attracting the least footfall of 7,243, when Chennayin FC visited on November 11.
