The Indian Government has approved AIFF’s bid to host the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2017.
The AIFF required Rs. 120 crore from the Centre in order to improve the infrastructure, and guarantees on several counts that include employment, visas and tax exemptions for foreign entities.
The venues which have been approved by the government include New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Margao, Kochi and Guwahati.
The tournament will see the improvement of the following stadia: Jawaharlal Nehru of Delhi (Rs. 5 crore), Salt Lake in Kolkata (Rs. 15 crore), Cooperage in Mumbai (Rs. 25 crore), Balewadi complex in Pune (Rs. 10 crore), BFA of Bangalore (Rs. 35 crore) and one stadium in Goa, Assam or Kerala.
AIFF and football’s world governing body FIFA have agreed to bear the entire expenditure of hosting the tournament. The amounts required are to be raised through sponsorships and other commercial agreements.
