Murilo and Soosai immense as Chennai City repel Bagan
When Kromah equalized for the hosts from the spot in the 35th minute, it looked like it was going to be the turning point in the match, especially with Chennai City down a man.
However, the visitors put up a monumental effort to stave off the efforts of the Mariners as they went looking for three points. They continued to remain organized and solid defensively.
Murilo and captain Soosai Raj were immense for the visitors - the duo on numerous occasions carrying the ball out after a defensive play and holding it up, allowing their side a breather and bringing their teammates into play. They would get the ball, hold it up, draw a foul and their tireless efforts were instrumental in Chennai City's win ultimately.
Soosai Raj was the outlet most of the time after Chennai City cleared the ball. Abhishek Das found him tough to handle and Raj drew so many fouls that gave his defence a respite and helped his own team stay positive as they looked to hit Bagan on the counter.
The winning goal came from the efforts of these two - Soosai found Murilo ahead who eventually managed to win a corner. Soosai stepped up to deliver and his ball was headed in by central defender Veniamin Shumeiko.
Murilo could have scored a third for Chennai City after a late counter saw him and Raj in a 2-on-1 advantage, but his shot rebounded off the crossbar. The duo were outstanding on the night.
It was an effort not lost on the Bagan fans as they gave the away team a warm round of applause at the end of the match.
