Kashmir FC announced their arrival on the biggest footballing stage in the country with an emphatic 2-1 win over Mohammedan Sporting Kolkata.
Bouncing back from their previous defeat, Kashmir FC started attacking from the word go. They didn’t let the stature and home advantage of Mohammadan Sporting come in their way as they went all guns blazing in attack.
They created the first chance of the game with forward Ajay Singh being in the thick of things. He forced a couple of saves from the opposition goalkeeper before eventually scoring the first goal, finishing off from a peach of a cross from Amandeep.
Mohammedan then equalised after a penalty was awarded in their favour which was duly converted by them.
The team from Jammu and Kashmir started the second half with the same intent and looked likely to score again. And it was Ajay singh who obliged, finishing off a through ball from Bisheshwor to give them the advantage.
They didn’t sit back after scoring the goal and still went all out on attack to further try and add to the advantage with James and Aman going close. The final score ended 2-1 in favour of Kashmir FC.
Coach Hilal said, ”I knew my team was capable of producing such a result.The boys have been working hard in training and improving on the weaknesses that cost us the previous match.We were confident going into the match and I urged the boys to forget the previous result and do their best.It was evident throughout the match that we were the team that looked with the more intent and the final result speaks for itself.
Club Secretary Majid Yousuf said, "We don’t want to bask in the today’s result, what we need is to focus on the games coming up and perform the same."
With the victory, Kashmir FC has created a significant moment in J&K State football history which has made people of the state very proud. Chairman and Owner of the club Iftikhar A Lone was delighted with the result. With results like this, qualification is very much on the cards for Kashmir FC.
