The first-ever IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs, a nationwide search for the country’s next Maradona and Carlos Tevez, made its second stop in the capital New Delhi on Saturday, December 7.
The country’s first ever joint platform for talented footballers from schools and colleges started their eight city journey earlier in the week in Chandigarh.
The historic Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium played host to the New Delhi-leg of this initiative with 38 top School teams from New Delhi battling it out become the regional champions.
CRPF Public School of Rohini emerged as the Champions of the School leg of IFB Boca Juniors Football champs. The Rohini-based team led by skipper Anuj Kumar defeated Sarwan Public School by a solitary goal to win the rights to represent New Delhi in the National finals to be held in April 2014, while Inonito Zhimoni (Genesis Global School) was adjudged as the Most Valuable player of the tournament.
Jamshed Nassiri, the Head Scout of the event, was very pleased with the talent that was shortlisted from the Capital, 2We saw some interesting talent. If we work on them they can surely become one of the biggest footballers in the country.”
In a hard fought finals of the College-leg, Maharaja Agrasen College got the better of Bharatiya Vidyapeeth on penalties after being deadlocked till the final whistle to become the College Champions of the first ever IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs.
The college leg saw a total of 20 teams participate in this event which is country’s first-ever Inter College Football Development program. Deepesh Rana of Ram Lal Anand College was selected as the Most Valuable player of the tournament.
Ranjan Mathur, Associate Vice President of IFB Industries Limited, gave away the prizes to all the winners. CRPF Public School and Maharaja Agrasen College will now represent New Delhi in the National finals of the IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs to be held in April 2014.
Head scout Jamshed Nassiri shortlisted Anuj Kumar (CRPF School) and Amardeep Singh (Apeejay School Noida) from the School-leg while Anuj Sharma (Ram Lal Anand College) and Akshay Hurria (Shri Venkatesha College) from the College-leg. These boys will be invited to be a part of the National Camp in Goa where they will be joined by other scouted boys from all across the country and there these boys will receive training from Boca Juniors coaches.
The eight city IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs will now travel to Kolkata for the third-leg of the competition.
