Indian goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan joins West Ham United Ladies

Aditi Chauhan who has represented the Indian women football team in several international competitions, has now joined West Ham Ladies as their goalkeeper. The Indian though had a disappointing debut match as her team lost 5-0 to Coventry City.

Chauhan has represented India at several tournament in both the U-19 team as well as the senior team. The last tournament she played was the 2014 Asain Games in South Korea. Although the Indian team started the tournament on a splendid note, it went south for them after they lost 10-0 to both South Korea and Thailand.

With the team not seeing any success in the Asian Games, they went on to claim the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) champions that year in Sri Lanka.

Soon after the tournament, she left for England, to complete her masters in sports management at the Loughborough University, where she was also part of the football team.

She was delighted to join the West Ham ladies from Loughborough, and feels that the team is a great platform for her to improve her goalkeeping skills as she will be able to face better players and teams in this new league.

The 23-year old was brought up in Delhi, where she participated in various sports from a very young age. While she mostly participated in karate and basketball, it was her basketball skills that lead her into the path of football.

Chauhan’s coach was convinced that she could end up being a good goalkeeper due to her powerful grip and athletic physique developed through her basketball training. She joined Delhi U-19 squad at the age of 15, and went on to join the national team from there.
