What's the story?

With the much awaited FIFA U-17 World Cup about to kick off, an emotional picture of Indian defender Jitendra Singh's tribute to his mother on social media created a heartwarming stir amongst football fans. The young lad was seen sporting a new haircut that reads "Ma" in Hindi. Opting for the fashionable Mohawk, the Indian defender left no stone unturned to pay tribute to the important woman in his life and dedicated the World Cup to her.

In case you didn't know...

The FIFA U17 World Cup is all set to take place between October 6th to 28th 2017. Indian fans have been waiting with baited breath for the country's biggest sporting event, as India has been chosen as the host nation. India was granted hosting rights in December 2013, this being the first time that the country is hosting a FIFA tournament as well as being the first Asian hosted U-17 World Cup since 2013.

Heart of the matter

Indian football has gained wide recognition with its players performing considerably well, especially the budding young talents. This year's U17 World Cup has a lot of expectations from the host country. India's defender Jitendra Singh hails from a family of hardships that in no way deterred him from following his dreams of becoming a footballer. Looking up to his brother, also a footballer for Kolkata's United Sports club, the youngster took it upon himself to make his family proud and has been looking forward to showcasing his talent at the country's biggest event.

Jitendra claims that his goal in life is to represent India's senior national team one day and make his family proud. He wishes to inspire all youngsters in the country to follow their dreams and help cultivate the spirit of sport amongst young Indians.

With his inspiring and touching gesture towards his mother before the onset of the World Cup, here's hoping that the youngster and his team are able to perform their best and make the country proud. India plays their first match against the United States on 6th October.
