Kerala Blasters striker Mark Sifneos' goal against FC Goa has been voted as the ISL's Fans' Goal of the Week. The Dutchman scored the opening goal for his side in their 5-2 hammering at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on Saturday. Despite this loss, though, this goal took his tally to 2 goals in from as many starts for the Men in Yellow.
Sifneos put the Blasters ahead in the 7th minute of the game when he got on the end of a delightful ball into the penalty area from the right flank by Jackichand Singh. The 21-year-old showed no signs of nerve and calmly dispatched the ball into the back of the net, after taking a touch, with his preferred right foot.
However, things were not meant to be on the night for the Blasters as FC Goa clawed their way back into the game through goals from Manuel Lanzarote. Rene Muelensteen's side responded through a Jackichand Singh goal to level things up at half-time but a scintillating 7-minute hattrick in the second half from Ferran Corominas sealed their fate in the tie.
The only bright spot in the game was Sifneos' form in front of goal and the striker, who is the youngest overseas player in the league, managed to win the Fans' Goal of the Week award in convincing fashion with 51.6% votes, surpassing the likes of Lanzarote, Izu Azuka, Zequinha and Corominas himself.
Kerala Blasters, along with their opponents in last year's final ATK, are the only sides who are yet to taste victory this season and they find themselves at the wrong end of the table after game week 4.
