The Glazer family, owners of Premier League side Manchester United, have insisted that they will not sell the hugely-profitable club at any cost, and according to the Telegraph, are considering offers to tour India in the coming year.
The Red Devils, who travel the world over as part of their pre-season preparations every summer, are discussing offers they have received to become the first Premier League team to tour India.
Reason to travel to the sub-continent would be strong, as reports suggest that they have a 20 million-strong fan base in the country. However, the harsh Indian summers have been a deterrent for the side in the past.
Last season’s Champions League finalists Bayern Munich have recently visited the country, drawing crowds of over 100,000 during exhibition games. United want to tap this revenue stream as well, knowing well about the growing interest in football in the country.
The news of United coming to India would be huge for the country’s passionate football fans, who even stay up till wee hours of the night to watch the likes of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney play in the Barclays Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
