The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the 36-men probable squad for the India U20 national camp. The camp, slated to be held in Goa from Saturday, June 29, acts as a preparatory camp for the upcoming SAFF U20 Championship.
The sixth edition of the SAFF U20 Championship is scheduled to begin on August 18 and will run until August 28 in Kathmandu, Nepal. India, the reigning champions of the SAFF U19 Championship, secured their title last year with a commanding 3-0 victory over Pakistan in the final.
The current India U20 probable squad includes several players from last year’s victorious team, such as Manglenthang Kipgen and Gwgwmsar Goyary, both of whom scored in the final against Pakistan.
For this year's tournament, the Indian team is placed in Group B alongside Maldives and Bhutan. The remaining teams, including hosts Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, are clubbed in Group A.
India’s campaign kicks off on August 17 against Bhutan, followed by their last group-stage match against Maldives on August 23.
The camp in Goa also serves a dual purpose, preparing the squad for the 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup Qualifiers set to take place in September 2024 in Laos. Post the SAFF U20 Championships, the India U20 squad will continue their training in Goa to maintain their momentum and readiness for the qualifiers.
