East Bengal FC have announced a 30-member squad for the ongoing 2024 Indian Super Cup, which is being held in Bhubaneswar. Carles Cuadrat's men have been drawn in Group A alongside arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Hyderabad FC, and Sreenidi Deccan.

The Red and Gold Brigade began their 2024 Indian Super Cup campaign with a 3-2 win over Hyderabad FC in their opening fixture on Tuesday. Skipper Cleiton Silva's brace and Saul Crespo's 80th-minute winner earned East Bengal three points against the 2021-22 ISL winners.

"We’re in a position to improve and are going to look forward to the next match" - Carles Cuadrat

Reflecting on his side's 3-2 victory against Hyderabad FC, East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat asserted that he was happy with his side's performance.

"We’re very happy with the performance," Cuadrat told reporters. "It was important to start the tournament with three points so we met the target. The performance was good. We’ve been defensively very good in the last game, but we conceded twice today. We’re in a position to improve and are going to look forward to the next match."

Asked about his thoughts on East Bengal's upcoming challenge against Sreenidi Deccan on Sunday, the Spaniard stated in the pre-match conference on Saturday:

"We are expecting a tough game against a good team that has an excellent combination of good foreigners and talented Indians. They are a top I-League side and made things very difficult for Mohun Bagan SG in their first match. Let's see if we can play the kind of match that we want to and get our second consecutive victory in this Kalinga Super Cup."

While the opening game already turned out to be a closely fought contest for East Bengal FC, the one against Sreenidi Deccan is expected to be no different. Sreenidi, who plays in the I-League, gave a tough time to the defending ISL champion, Mohn Bagan Super Giant in their previous encounter.
