In what will be another blow to the debt-ridden Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC have swooped in and secured the services of left-back Jeremy Zohminghlua ahead of the 2023-24 season. Sportskeeda understands that it is a free transfer as Jeremy's contract with the Nawabs came to an end on May 31. He was promoted to the senior side after the exodus of the seniors in the winter transfer window.
The details of the deal are not yet clear, although one can assume that it will be a long-term one given that the Mizoram footballer is just 19 years old and filled to the brim with potential.
Hyderabad FC used Jeremy in the left-back position alongside Mark Zothanpuia in their troubled 2023-24 season, with the former even holding his own whenever the latter was asked to ply his trade in central midfield.
Jeremy Zohminghlua is a promising left-back
One of the highlights of Jeremy's career with the senior Hyderabad team was when he came desperately close to scoring an equalizer against East Bengal at the Maidaan in Gachibowli in the ISL last season.
He was solid at the back for head coach Thangboi Singto and provided a lot of impetus to the Yellow and Black while running down the flanks. Jeremy's exuberance at passing the ball around was also noticeable.
What will be missed by the faithful at the Maidaan in Gachibowli is the eye for goal that young Jeremy had and the way he gelled with his teammates to create passes and direct scoring opportunities in the final third.
Odisha FC have secured a fine footballer and will want to make sure that he fulfills the early promise that he has shown. As for Hyderabad, after the earlier mentioned Zothanpuia - who has signed for East Bengal - this is another big loss.
The Nawabs' troubles seem to have no end in sight with the management not yet certain when the new investors will come on board. They take on FC Goa in their first Durand Cup game in Shillong on August 5.
