Midfielder Borja Herrera is all set to sign for East Bengal following a fantastic debut season in the subcontinent with Hyderabad FC, as per the TOI reporter Marcus Mergulhao.

The Red and Gold Brigade faithful will be elated to see the Spanish midfielder join hands with the new head coach Carles Cuadrat.

The 30-year-old graduated from Huracan, an outfit based out of Las Palmas in Spain before featuring for many Spanish sides including Las Palmas, Real Valladolid, and Albacete. Herrera already had the Asian experience before moving to Hyderabad FC the previous summer when he plied his trade with the Israeli club Maccabi Netanya.

Since that move did not pan out well, his return to Spain was only a matter of time. The former Hyderabad FC midfielder had stints at Andorra, Unionistas de Salamanca, and Tamaraceite before signing for the men in yellow in 2022.

Borja Herrera, who sat at the heart of the midfield, appeared 30 times across all competitions for the one-time Indian Super League (ISL) winners. Not only was he a hardworking midfielder, but he was also a regular contributor in the offensive areas of the pitch. He scored five goals and set up another nine goals for his teammates throughout the campaign.

Borja Herrera's arrival a massive boost to East Bengal ahead of next season

East Bengal will benefit greatly from the Spaniard, who can play as a defensive and offensive midfielder. He possesses the tools to elevate East Bengal's midfield to new heights.

Borja Herrera's arrival continues a busy summer window as they are continued to be linked with numerous players. Carles Cuadrat will be desperate to boost the quality of the players across the pitch by digging deep into the transfer market.

East Bengal fans will be waiting for the link-up between Borja Herrera and Cleion Silva, who penned a new contract with the Kolkata-based outfit.

On the other hand, Hyderabad FC will feel subdued to lose their integral cog following the departure of their head coach Manolo Marquez to FC Goa.
