Jamshedpur FC are set to sign Croatian forward Petar Sliskovic from Chennaiyin FC for the upcoming season.

The 32-year-old joined Marina Machans at the start of the last campaign and is on the verge of becoming Jamshedpur FC’s first signing, as per The Times of India journalist Marcus Mergulhao.

Sliskovic played an important part under Thomas Brdaric, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the Indian Super League (ISL). Furthermore, he netted three goals in the Durand Cup as he led Chennaiyin FC to a quarter-final spot.

However, an injury towards the backend of the campaign ended his season early and he played no part in the recently concluded Hero Super Cup. Sliskovic was unquestionably one of the bright spots for Chennaiyin FC in a rather disappointing season.

Sliskovic began his professional career at German top-tier club FSV Mainz and scored twice in the Bundesliga. He made a name for himself with FSV Mainz II in the fourth tier of German football, scoring 53 goals in just 73 games.

After plying his trade in Germany and Switzerland for several years, the Croatian joined Chennaiyin FC in 2022. It was certainly a rocky start in India, but he bounced back to earn plaudits from the fans for his all-round performances upfront.

Jamshedpur FC set to overhaul their squad ahead of the 2023-24 season

Petar Sliskovic appears to be the first of many signings for Jamshedpur FC. Reports suggest that the club have already lost winger Boris Singh to FC Goa, while Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Rafael Crivellaro, Eli Sabia, and Harrison Sawyer’s contracts are expiring at the end of the season.

While Ritwik Das has extended his stay, the Red Miners will look to add fresh faces with an ambition to challenge the front runners again. Rumors also suggest that head coach Aidy Boothroyd is on his way out, with a new manager set to be named.

Adding Sliskovic, however, appears to be a sensible move. He is a physical presence and combines his raw strength with quality hold-up play. Additionally, he is proficient with the ball and has proved his ability to arrive in the right place at the right time to score goals.

His profile also complements Daniel Chima Chukwu as the Nigerian’s pace and Sliskovic’s holdup play could be a force to be reckoned with. Jamshedpur FC had a strong finish to the campaign, winning four of their final five ISL games, and will look to carry their momentum into the new season.
