Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC announced yesterday that they have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Anthony Rudolph Warner for material breach of his Standard Player's Agreement ahead of the ISL - Season 2.

Warner’s decision to sign a short-term goalkeeper coaching contract with his former club English Championship side Bolton Wanderers against the knowledge of his new team is understood to have led to the decision, though NorthEast United refused to divulge specific reasons.

“We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time,” the statement released on the club’s official website stated.

The Liverpool-born Trinidad and Tobago professional footballer was signed by the ISL franchise on July 2 and had emerged as a frontrunner to be their next goalkeeping coach after Lee Turner parted ways with the club to join Charlton Athletic.

Bolton manager Neil Lennon had confirmed two weeks back that the Trotters had indeed made contact with Warner.

“Tony has come up from the academy, so we’ve given him a sort of trial period and see how it goes,” Lennon told The Bolton News .

NorthEast United though have not waited for the outcome of the decision and has decided on ending their association with the 41-year-old.
