Scoring 14 goals in 11 matches, Ranti Martins is currently leading the top goal scorer’s list in the 2012-2013 season of the I-League. He is currently aiming for the hat trick of being the top goal scorer in three consecutive seasons. This feat has only been achieved by the Mohun Bagan‘s striker Odafa Okolie, when he was playing for the Goan outfit, Churchill Brothers.
In the previous season of I-League, Ranti Martins was the top scorer netting 32 goals. The second spot was grabbed by Odafa Okolie who scored 26 goals. The third place was jointly shared by East Bengal’s Aussie striker Tolgay Ozbey and Edeh Chidi of Salgaocar with 18 goals each.
In the ongoing season of the I-League, Odafa and Chidi look to be trailing Ranti by quite a large margin. While Tolgay has been out of the side due to his injury.
“Looking at the current scenario of Indian football it will be tough to give any of these three a crown of being the best. But according to me Ranti,Edeh and Odafa all are very good. But Ranti’s has an upperhand amongst the three as he carries a very calm head above his shoulder,” said the Brazilian star striker Jose Ramirez Barreto.
Derrick Pereira, currently managing Pune FC was enthralled by Ranti’s performance this season. He said,“Ranti is the best foreign striker in India a the moment. His numbers speaks for itself.”
