14 Kids under the age of 14 from Riverside Football academy, based at Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, recently participated and acquired basic knowledge of football from coaches of the Real Madrid Foundation.
The 14 day camp was organized by LOKO Football Academy at HAL Grounds, Bangalore. The camp also saw an initiative for coaches being certified by a program held to acquire basic coaching skills. These initiatives are part of a push for building a good Under 17 team when India bags the hosting rights for the 2017 U17 FIFA World Cup.
The need for grassroots sports development is being catered to and young talent is being nurtured at the Riverside Public School, Kotagiri. The school also focuses on building talent via scholarships for kids via the Grassroots Sports Development Trust.
The Chairman of the school, Mr Suresh Belliraj, has taken giant strides in developing grassroots sports by promoting sports at his school within the existing education system.
The results are open to the public eye, with kids representing the national team in many a sport. What is most encouraging is that it is not only the boys who have achieved, but girls too. Specific details of athletic achievements are available at the school.
