Sporting Clube de Goa battle with Sesa in Goa Super League opener

In a bid to discover Goan football supremacy, the Goa Super League kicks-off with a mouth watering clash between Sporting Clube de Goa and Sesa Football Academy at Duler ground in Mapusa on Friday afternoon. The kick off is 4p.m.

The game is a repeat of last season’s Goa Super Cup final. On that occasion, Sporting Clube de Goa triumphed over Sesa Football Academy 1-0 thanks to a last minute Victorino Fernandes strike for the Flaming Oranje.

When the two clubs met in this seasons Goa Pro League, Sporting Goa came away with a 2-0 victory with once more Victorino Fernandes on target, while Liberian-born Australian striker Boima Jerry Karpeh, who is the league’s top goal scorer with 11 goals from eight matches, grabbed the second.

The points are carried over from the first stage of the league and after nine matches Churchill Brothers are currently first with 23 points, followed by Sporting Clube de Goa in second with 22 points, Dempo SC are in third place with 17 points, Salgaocar FC are fourth with 15 points and Sesa Football Academy is occupying fifth spot with 13 points.

As the I-League has gone into a small break for the two international friendlies, full attention has been given to the local league where a total of 10 exciting matches aim to be played over the next twelve days.
