Star Sports launched its latest sporting venture ‘Young Heroes’ in association with IDBI and Parle to handpick the 16 most talented football players from schools from 15 different cities. It is a 7 a side U-15 school football tournament.
Boys Sports Coy were crowned the winners of Shillong after they beat St.Anthony Higher Secondary School, 4-3 on penalties in the finals. Boys Sports Coy qualified for the National finals where they will play the best teams from all the 15 cities taking part in the tournament.
Remark Kharmalki (H. Elias Higher Secondary School, Kynsailang Khongsit (H. Elias Higher Secondary School), Phrangki Bnam (O M Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School) and Jophilang Mysong (Mynyken Christian Higher Secondary School) were selected through the scouting process at the Madan Heh Stadium, Mawlai Phudmuri over the last two days. They will be a part of 45 selected students who will be mentored by the specialized coaches.
650 schools have been shortlisted for the playoffs and a total of 4,20,000 students are estimated to play at the tournament making the Young Heroes program the country’s biggest talent scouting program.
Head Mentor Jamshid Nassiri said that he extremely pleased by the kind of talent the tournament was unearthing and was looking forward to train the selected youngsters
“We witnessed some thrilling and exhilarating games in the last two days in Shillong. The young players played the game with passion, enthusiasm and zeal. My heartiest congratulations to the winning team along with the young footballers selected from Shillong, through the scouting process,” he said.
“Young Heroes’ tournament has boosted up all the young students of the country with optimism and motivation to perform better and aim to play football for their country, in days to come.”
Being India’s biggest talent scouting program Young Heroes will certainly help in making football a much bigger game, it will also increase the number of youngsters who would want to play the game and take it up professionally.
Young Heroes travel to Guwahati next where they will continue their scouting program. Young Heroes is committed towards elevating the level of football at the grassroots with the intent to give birth to the football heroes of future. The tournament will see over 100 days of activation program across the participating schools.
All through the tournament, around 45 boys will be selected to undergo a training camp, after which the best 16 will be handpicked by professional coaches to go on an international exposure trip to Spain.
