Subrata Pal finally gets work permit to play in Denmark

Danish Superliga club FC Vestsjaelland announced on Friday that India international Subrata Pal has been finally granted work permit to play in Denmark.

Subrata, who will be wearing the no.16 jersey, is now eligible to feature either in the domestic league or even in the reserve league. Sportskeeda learnt that the Vestsjaelland coaching staff wanted to use India’s number one in their reserve league encounter against Esbjerg last Tuesday but the 27-year-old missed out as he was awaiting his work permit.

The custodian would now be hoping to play in Vestsjaelland’s next reserve league fixture against FC Copenhagen on February 24. Before that the first team resume their domestic league campaign after the winter break with a home game against rock-bottom SonderjyskE on February 21.

Vestsjaelland, who were promoted to the Danish top flight this season, are currently just two points and one place above the drop zone so they need to beat SonderjyskE next week. Subrata faces tough competition with Mads Petersen in even becoming the second choice behind regular keeper Thomas Mikkelsen.

The 2007 AIFF Player of the Year will be looking to make the most of whatever opportunities he gets during this loan stint until the end of June and a start in the reserve league game next week could even be handy to keep his place in the India team for next month’s international friendly against Bangladesh in Goa on March 5.

Subrata has already been made to feel at home by the club management and his teammates. He was also part of the squad’s stay in Spain for the invitational tournament Copa del Sol during the winter break and that experience will surely help him settle in the new surroundings.
