The Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) has fixed the registration system for five of the sports events of the National Games 2024/25. Thanks to the efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Sports Minister Rekha Arya, the National Games will take place in Uttarakhand.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on December 2 that the National Games will take place from January 28 to February 14 in Uttarakhand.
The preparations for the mega-event are in full swing and the authorities have locked in the registration system for handball, beach handball, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball.
Sunaina Kumari, the chairperson of GTCC, has sent a letter to the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the National Sports Federation, States Olympics Associations, Union Territories Olympics Associations and Services Sports Control Board. The associations will have to ensure entry of their respective teams takes place from January 3 to 13.
As per Uttarakhand Olympic Association General Secretary Dr. DK Singh, there was a need to build consensus regarding handball, beach handball, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball at the national level. Hence, the GTCC decided to fix the registration system a month before the event itself.
Key points to note for registration system in National Games 2024/25
As mentioned ahead, the efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Sports Minister Rekha Arya helped Uttarakhand become the official host of the National Games.
It is the 38th edition of the mega-event, and as far as handball is concerned, the teams that finished in the Top 7 of the previous edition will receive an invitation to play in Uttarakhand.
Taekwondo selection will happen in Dehradun. GTCC or IOC will appoint a selection committee to ensure proper selection and the event is open for all Taekwondo athletes.
For volleyball and beach volleyball, the state teams that played in the 36th edition of the mega-event (except Gujarat) will be invited to Uttarakhand.
Lastly, the National Sports Federation will provide the names of eligible athletes to the respective State Sports Associations as per the guidelines. NSF will also share the sports list with the associations.
