Marco Andretti will be returning to the Indy 500 for the 2025 race, the 109th running of one of the greatest spectacles in motor racing. The $20 million-worth American (via Celebrity Net Worth) joins the lineup for the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with MAPEI sponsoring his entry.
Andretti participated in the 2024 Indy 500 with MAPEI, a global brand in chemicals, as his sponsor and 2025 will be the second year running of the brand sponsoring the 37-year-old. Marco will be driving the #98 Andretti Global car powered by Honda with a livery inspired by MAPEI.
The chemical manufacturing brand will also sponsor Kyle Kirkwood’s full-time entry for the 2025 IndyCar season. Speaking about the partnership with MAPEI, the Chief Commercial Officer at Andretti Global, Doug Bresnahan said:
“Our partnership with MAPEI over the 2024 season was such an excellent addition to our Andretti IndyCar program.”
“The constant of the MAPEI brand on Kyle Kirkwood’s No. 27 throughout the full season paired with MAPEI’s increased presence as the primary partner for Marco Andretti’s No. 98 at the 2024 Indianapolis 500 was the perfect way for our team to expose a new partner to all the great opportunities the NTT IndyCar Series has to offer, and we are honored to have MAPEI back on board in 2025 for what is sure be another exciting season.”
The 2025 Indy 500 will be Marco Andretti's 20th consecutive entry for the event. He has finished on the podium of the Indy 500 on four occasions with the P2 finish on his debut being his best result.
Marco is the son of Former IndyCar champion Michael Andretti and grandson of former F1 and IndyCar champion Mario Andretti. He retired from his role as a full-time IndyCar driver at the end of 2020 and since then has only participated in the Indy 500.
“Second place is nothing”: Marco Andretti's comments after his P2 finish at the 2006 Indy 500
2006 was Marco Andretti's debut year in IndyCar as he was promoted from the Indy Lights. The American started his debut Indy 500 from P9 and finished the race in P2. However, the Andretti Green driver (now Andretti Global) wasn't content with his result and suggested that second place meant nothing to him.
“Second place is nothing. They don't remember people who finish second here. They really don't. You gotta take advantage of every shot. How many times did my dad finish second? He never won it and neither did I,” said Andretti (via ESPN).
Marco’s father Michael never won the Indy 500 in the 16 times he participated in the race at the IMS. Marco hasn't won in the 19 races he's competed in either and the debut year P2 was the closest he ever came to kissing the bricks. Mario Andretti was the first and the last from the Andretti family to win the Indy 500 in 1969.
