Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's latest acquisition Louis Foster has shared his experience after his first IndyCar test with the team. The 21-year-old racing prospect signed a multi-year deal for Bobby Rahal's outfit in October.

Second generation British driver Foster is the latest prospect making waves in the racing world. Coming through the ranks of Euroformula, he made his Indy Pro 2000 Championship debut in 2021, clinching the title in his maiden and sole campaign. He signed for Andretti Global in 2023, moving up to the Indy NXT Series.

After winning the 2024 Indy NXT Championship, Foster signed for the Bobby Rahal, David Letterman, and Michael Lanigan-owned Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing on October 9, 2024.

As the 2025 campaign approaches, teams have already undergone the preparatory stage. Foster recently participated in his first test session with RLL, where he focused on adjusting to the nuances of driving an IndyCar. Speaking on the Divebomb IndyCar podcast, Foster reflected on the day:

"It was a good day. We had a lot of very different run plans compared to a lot of the other drivers there. A lot of the drivers there were eval drivers and they weren't signed or had other things they were doing. There was a kind of mix of drivers there." (25:54)

"We did a lot of running in the sense that we were practicing for me to race. We did a lot of fuel saving, we did a lot of tire saving, just those kind of things."

However, Foster also acknowledged facing some issues with the car’s balance but emphasized the value of the experience. He added:

"We had quite different run plans than everyone. But it was a good day. We learned a lot about the team. We definitely faced some issues with the balance... We did a lot of laps, and I enjoyed it. It was my first time out properly in an IndyCar. It was fun."

What did Louis Foster say after signing for Bobby Rahal's team?

Louis Foster's 2024 INDY NXT season with Andretti Global was a masterclass in consistency. Winning eight of the 14 races, he outpaced Abel Motorsports’ Jacob Abel by 122 points to secure the championship. Foster’s ability to lead the series in every significant category—wins, poles, podiums, laps led, and laps completed—has set high expectations for his IndyCar debut.

After signing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in October, he said (via IndyCar):

"I can’t wait to start my INDYCAR career with the team, and hopefully we can have a long and successful career together. I’m hoping that coming off the experience gained from winning the INDY NXT championship, that will leave me in a good stance to get the ball rolling. This is where the hard work starts. We will start the preparations and make sure we get hit the ground running in St. Pete."

Beyond the Indy NXT Series, Louis Foster also won the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 series.
