Danica Patrick shared her reaction on Instagram after Justin Trudeau stepped down as Canada's Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader on Monday, January 6. After hours of speculation, Trudeau addressed a group of reporters in Ottawa, the capital of Canada.
Amid growing concerns about his leadership and in the aftermath of Canadian deputy prime minister and finance minister Chrystia Freeland stepping down last month, Trudeau resigned from his post, citing 'internal battles' as the cause.
"I intend to resign as party leader, as Prime Minister, after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide competitive process," he told reporters.
"This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election."
American journalist and podcaster Benny Johnson shared a video of Trudeau addressing the media on Instagram, which former IndyCar star Danica Patrick reshared on her story and wrote:
"2025 is lit! 🔥"
Patrick's candid take comes as a result of her newfound involvement in politics and support for American President Donald Trump. Trump is set to take office in two weeks, on January 20.
He had earlier threatened to impose 25% tariffs on goods coming in from Canada and Mexico if the two countries weren't able to stop the flow of drugs and migrants into the USA.
Danica Patrick's reason for giving her first vote to Donald Trump
Danica Patrick's first real brush with politics came at the 2023 TPUSA America Fest, which she attended courtesy of her sister's proposal.
Although she faced backlash for her appearance there, the former IndyCar and NASCAR driver developed an interest in politics. A year later, she appeared as a speaker at the 2024 TPUSA America Fest in December.
Two months before that, in October last year, Patrick revealed the reason behind her strong support for Donald Trump. In a conversation with Fox News' Jesse Watters, Patrick said:
"It feels like voting for Donald Trump is like the vote of reason. It’s like the rational, reasonable choice."
She said that it would be her first time voting in the national elections as she listed the good qualities that made Trump her prefered presidential candidate.
"I think that he has a great sense of humor. I think that he is a man amongst the people. I feel like when you wrap that up with the humility that he has, the sense of humor that he has, the off-the-cuff confidence that he has.
"His ability to go so unscripted and be in so many scenarios where he has to essentially be himself, it’s pretty much all of them," she added.
In December, Danica Patrick also added being aware that she would be losing friends and followers when she decided to enter politics. On the motorsport front, she's expected to cover the 2025 F1 season with Sky Sports, although it's unconfirmed yet.
