Former F1 driver Romain Grosjean has signed a contract with PREMA Racing for the 2025 IndyCar season as the Frenchman will be fulfilling the role of the reserve driver for the Italian team. The announcement was made at the PREMA racing official launch.

Grosjean, who drove for Juncos Hollinger Racing in 2024, was announced as PREMA’S reserve driver on January 10, 2025. The newest IndyCar team had its car and livery launch in Charlotte, North Carolina where the Frenchman was spotted sitting in the crowd in a PREMA jersey.

Will Buxton, the F1TV presenter, who was hosting the PREMA launch pointed out Grosjean and revealed that he will indeed be joining the Italian team. The 38-year-old was left without a seat for the 2025 IndyCar season after his former team Juncos Hollinger Racing announced Sting Ray Robb and Conor Daly as its drivers for the upcoming season.

As Buxton made the announcement, PREMA Racing IndyCar CEO Piers Phillips said (via the live launch):

“Having Romian can't see him with the light. So apologies, but Romain Grosjean is our reserve driver. We're obviously incredibly privileged to have him in the team as well, and really looking forward to some successful times ahead.”

Grosjean was linked to Dale Coyne Racing, a team yet to announce its lineup for the 2025 season. DCR gave the Frenchman his break in IndyCar when he joined the series in 2021 after his fireball crash at the 2020 Bahrain GP, hence the links were being made.

PREMA also announced that Ryan Briscoe will be joining the IndyCar project as a sporting advisor. Briscoe is a former racing driver who raced in IndyCar for over a decade with top teams like Team Penske and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Romain Grosjean along with Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott reveal the PREMA livery

PREMA announced Juncos Hollinger Racing’s former IndyCar driver Callum Ilott and former F3 & F2 driver Robert Shwartzman as its full-time drivers for the 2025 IndyCar season. The two permanent drivers along with the reserve driver, Romain Grosjean revealed the livery for the upcoming IndyCar season.

PREMA had been teasing the livery via its Instagram posts a few days before the launch, but as expected, the livery is in its traditional colors. The team is based out of Italy and all its cars’ livery, whether the F3 or the F2, have the color scheme of the Italian flag.

The PREMA Dallara DW-12 powered by Chevrolet was also painted in the same red, white, and green color scheme. The lower half along with the front of the car is red, followed by loads of white around the side pods & engine cover, with green highlights on the aero screen, mirrors, and front wing.

The 2025 IndyCar season begins March 2, 2025 and the team has set up a base for itself in Indianapolis.
