Josef Newgarden made an appearance on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s YouTube channel in 2021 and teased Will Power for his previous feuds. The Australian had an infamous feud with Charlie Kimball in 2017.
Earnhardt Jr. questioned Newgarden about what the “International etiquette code was for settling disagreements”. The American then teased his Penske teammate while answering the question. Newgarden said:
“Got a different opinion on how we handle this. I mean, if you're Will Power you may fight someone, you know,” the American joked. “He doesn't want to fight. It's just part of his history. He's a lover. He’s my favorite person on the planet. I don't even know how to explain that guy to people. He's just so different.” (1:14:15 onwards)
Earnhardt Jr. then recalled the incident of the co-host racing with Power in IndyCar on IRacing. The stock car driver was reminded of the Penske driver’s “whiney” radio messages on IRacing and how it caught his attention.
Power had a fallout with former CGR driver Kimball following the crash at Watkins Glen International in 2016. The Australian’s IndyCar championship chances were hindered as he suffered a concussion. Another incident at the 2017 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach further escalated the feud between the two.
Will Power criticized Charlie Kimball following the 2017 crash as he said (via Autoweek):
“This guy is a big problem. He always has been. He is the only one that has incidents in every race. He is the only one. The only guy. He is a big problem. I’m going to let him know it, too. I’m so sick of this guy. He ruined my championship last year at Watkins Glen. He did. Yes, yes. I’m really, really mad at him.”
Power also had a minor falling out with his Penske teammate Josef Newgarden at the 2024 IndyCar race at Gateway.
Will Power blamed Josef Newgarden for the 2024 IndyCar Race at Gateway Crash
With 21 laps to go, David Malukas crashed as he attempted to overtake Will Power. Newgarden and McLaughlin pitted under caution with the former taking the lead.
However, Newgarden was extremely slow on the restart, with the midfield pack catching the leader. Alexander Rossi crashed into Power from behind, ending the Australian’s race with 10 laps to go.
Will Power blamed his teammate for the crash as he said (via Autosport):
“The leader. Whoever was leading. Where are you supposed to go? Like, in between [Turns] 3 and 4, he just waited then he went and stopped. He went, he stopped. I knew that was going to happen as soon as I checked up because he checked up again. I knew I was going to get pounded. Man, disappointing.”
However, the teammates sorted the issue out. As Newgarden mentioned in the interview with Earnhardt Jr., Power's anger lasts for a short period, after which he's back to being a loveable person.
