Logan Sargeant is rumored to be a possible candidate for a future F1 seat after Cadillac's F1 entry, backed by General Motors and Andretti, was approved by the Formula 1 management for the 2026 season. The team is reportedly deciding upon the drivers for their debut season in F1.
IndyCar insider Marshall Pruett, however, claimed Sargeant's chances of securing the Cadillac seat are slim. Pruett worked as an IndyCar engineer over a decade ago. He worked with multiple teams as an engineer before branching into media and reporting.
Pruett detailed the possibility of the former Williams F1 team driver signing with Cadillac on the latest episode of his podcast (MP 1561). He said:
“Logan Sargeant, texted with him today. Could be another one to consider, obviously. A year and a half of F1 experience. But I don't know if they would look to someone who did not have the kind of F1 career that anyone would hope for. They're doing this as a new venture. So, I'd love to see Logan get a proper shot." (at 11:40)
"I just don't think that as a brand new team manufacturer leaping in big time, I don't think the right call would be to have one of the two drivers someone who did not leave F1 on a high. That's a PR comment, not a talent comment. I think of the hundreds of Millions invested, I think of Cadillac, I think of GM, forget the Andretti side and the background, they tend to want things that are clean. No explanation, no nobody making fun,” he added.
Pruett concluded that he understands how GM works and they'd want a “clean decision with an American”. Colton Herta and Jak Crawford were thus the two most likely names suggested by the podcast host. He claimed that it would be shocking if Cadillac opted for any driver other than Herta.
“I really don't know”: Logan Sargeant on his future racing endeavors
Logan Sargeant was sacked by Williams Racing midway through the 2024 F1 season. The American said he still hasn't decided where he will be racing for the upcoming season.
Sargeant has run a few tests, including an LMP2 test, with the last one being in an IndyCar at the Thermal Club with Meyer Shank Racing.
Sargeant said (via ESPN):
“A lot of people are curious about what I'm going to do, and the truth is, I really don't know. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily chasing one direction or another. I had a test in a sports car, I have this IndyCar test, and it's quite a different feeling coming from such a hectic year and a half [in F1].”
If Colton Herta secures the Cadillac F1 seat, Sargeant might have an opportunity to replace him on the Andretti IndyCar team.
