Former IndyCar champion and Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay has been confirmed to enter the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 race next year. Hunter-Reay will pilot the No. 23 Chevrolet for Dryer & Reinbold/Cusick Motorsports in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Veteran driver Ryan Hunter-Reay is set to mark his return next season. The former Andretti Global (then Andretti Autosport) driver, who won the IndyCar Championship in 2012, will compete in his third straight Indy 500 race with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.

Having taken a sabbatical from full-time racing at the end of the 2021 campaign, Ryan Hunter-Reay returned to IndyCar in the 2023 season. Initially driving for DRR in the 107th Indy 500, he impressed with an 11th-place finish, showcasing his enduring talent. Subsequently, he joined Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) mid-season to replace Conor Daly in the No. 20 Bitnile Chevrolet. His stint with ECR was short-lived, as he was let go from the team at the end of the campaign.

For the 2024 season, RHR would again drive in the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, in association with Dreyer & Reinbold with Cusick Motorsports. Now, ahead of the 2025 campaign, he is set to return with the same team, making it three in a row.

This will be Hunter-Reay's 17th career start in the Indy 500, piloting the team's No. 23 Chevrolet.

In a press release, Hunter-Reay expressed his excitement about continuing with DRR and Cusick Motorsports for the 2025 Indy 500. He said (via IndyCar):

"It's been a fantastic time that I spent with this team. Ever since the beginning, really, since we first got together a few years ago, just really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the people there. That was the biggest thing for me, to really surround myself with some great folks.
"We all have the same agenda, right? That's to win the Indy 500. We're not there simply to participate."

Ryan Hunter-Reay, the 2012 IndyCar Series champion and 2014 Indy 500 winner, remains one of the sport’s most accomplished drivers. He has a total of six top-10 finishes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Joining Hunter-Reay in Dreyer & Reinbold’s 2025 Indy 500 lineup is another seasoned driver, Jack Harvey. Harvey, a veteran of the IndyCar Series, will drive the No. 24 Chevrolet, marking his return to the Indianapolis 500 after missing out in 2023. This will be Harvey’s seventh attempt at the iconic race and his first since 2022 when he competed with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
