Felix Rosenqvist took a friendly dig at his to-be 2025 IndyCar teammate Marcus Armstrong at an NHL game on Thursday, December 12. The duo and their third part-time teammate Helio Castroneves, who drive for the Columbus-based Meyer Shank Racing, were special guests of the Columbus Blue Jackets for their game against the division-leading Washington Capitals.
The three MSR drivers clad in Blue Jackets jerseys also participated in a pre-game autograph signing session open to all the attendees. Rosenqvist posted a series of photos from the Nationwide Arena, one of which featured Marcus Armstrong flexing his arms which were hidden by the full-sleeved jersey. He hilariously captioned it:
"@marcusarmstrong SKIPPED LEG DAY," which also seemed like an antonym-wordplay of his teammate's last name.
Ahead of the big game, their 4x Indy 500 winner teammate, Helio Castroneves, also gave WSYX ABC 6 a short interview. When asked about his expectations for the game, he replied:
"First of all, it's been an incredible experience today. I not only had an opportunity to meet the players, had an opportunity to meet the whole incredible facilities here. But I also went and up into the ring and sort of like playing a little bit with the, you know, some of the guys, which I was impressed. The TV does not do justice (to) how big they are, how fast they are, which I had an amazing time."
Castroneves also spoke about the MSR Indy car, which was positioned behind him during the interview, and had a special Blue Jackets livery on. Alas, their visit eventually met with a disappointing end as the Blue Jackets lost 2-1 to the Capitals in overtime.
Felix Rosenqvist declares Meyer Shank Racing will be "dangerous" in the 2025 IndyCar season
2024 was a decent year for Meyer Shank Racing. Their only full-time driver, Felix Rosenqvist, finished 12th in the IndyCar standings with 306 points with two Top 5 finishes in his first season with the team. At the 49th running of the Grand Prix of Long Beach, he also gave the team its first pole position in a points-paying race.
However, MSR is still a relatively inexperienced face in IndyCar. After a stellar 2024 season, Felix Rosenqvist believes the tides are about to change. The Swede said (via IndyCar):
"I think it was great. I’m really impressed by the team. It’s the most underrated team in INDYCAR. We’re probably the team that’s been rising the most from last year. We’re always going to take that even if we want more, especially given how the beginning of the season went."
He also addressed the team's inconsistency on some weekends, like the mechanical failure at the Indy 500, which gave them a direction for change for 2025.
"We know what we need to work on for next year, especially during the races where we struggled to string a weekend together. We'll be dangerous next year," he added.
2025 will be a new dawn for MSR, with 24-year-old Marcus Armstong joining after a 2-year stint with Chip Ganassi Racing.
