With the Rolex 24 just around the corner, Trackhouse Racing revealed its entry to the GTD Pro class. One of its drivers, Scott McLaughlin, shared his quirky thoughts on the No. 91 racecar, which caught the team's attention on social media.
McLaughlin is a 31-year-old racecar driver competing in the IndyCar Series. He started his racing career in Australia before moving to the American open-wheel racing series as a full-time driver for Team Penske in 2021.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, McLaughlin wrote an honest verdict on his racecar for the Rolex 24, a.k.a. 24 Hours of Daytona.
"Tasty looking race car I might say," Scott McLaughlin wrote.
Trackhouse Racing responded to the New Zealander, saying:
"Please don't eat it."
The No. 91 racecar is based on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R. The car will compete in the GT Daytona Pro (GTD) class where the driver lineups consist of professional racers only (excludes amateur drivers).
Scott McLaughlin will team up with Connor Zilisch, Ben Keating, and fellow Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen. They will switch driving duties in the 24-hour endurance race at the Daytona International Speedway (roval course).
The Rolex 24 at Daytona will start on January 23 for the qualifying session. The race will begin at 1:40 p.m. ET on Saturday and end after 24 hours.
The upcoming American enduro race will follow McLaughlin's previous IMSA entries in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class. Notably, the New Zealander won the 2023 12 Hours of Sebring in the Oreca 07 prototype for Tower Motorsports.
Meanwhile, the race will mark Trackhouse Racing's debut in the racing series. The entry is made possible in collaboration with TF Sport and Corvette Racing.
Scott McLaughlin expressed excitement about teaming up with Shane van Gisbergen for Rolex 24
Last month, Scott McLaughlin reshared Trackhouse Racing's teaser for the Rolex 24 on X. He then expressed his excitement about teaming up with fellow New Zealand racing driver Shane van Gisbergen, along with Connor Zilisch and Ben Keating.
McLaughlin wrote on X:
"Back in a tin top with my ol’ mate! Excited to get to Daytona and go hunting for some watches with these guys! Appreciate the opportunity!"
Tin top describes a car with a fully enclosed body. McLaughlin used to run road car-based vehicles in Australia's Supercars before competing in open-wheel, open-cockpit race cars in America's IndyCar Series.
His Rolex 24 teammate Shane van Gisbergen also ran in Supercars. The two New Zealanders won three championships each in the previous Gen 2 Supercar era.
Meanwhile, Connor Zilisch is a young stock car racing prospect signed as Trackhouse Racing's development driver. He will run his first full-time schedule with JR Motorsports, a team owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., in the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
As for Ben Keating, he is an IMSA veteran who has also competed in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Keating won the LMGTE Am class in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, the previous iteration of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R he will drive in the upcoming Rolex 24.
