The holiday season is underway for the IndyCar drivers as well as the IndyCar tracks as the IMS is covered in snow with no racing action. As of January 8, 2015, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is covered in snow, and the motorsport community reacted to the visuals of the same.
Fox and CBS reporter Eric Graves uploaded a video of the snow-laden Indianapolis on the social media platform X as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles took to the circuit, not in an IndyCar, but on a snowboard. The video was of the IMS president on a snowboard being pulled by a minivan around the oval.
Eric Graves uploaded the same with the caption,
“Great day to hit the slopes... or maybe @IMS? Who would've thought the first lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2025 would be @jdouglas4 on a snowboard. A little bit slower than an IndyCar, but the greatest spectacle in racing is getting closer. #IsItMayYet #Indy500”
The winter season hit Indiana soon after the official season began in November and currently, the citizens of Indianapolis are facing temperatures as low as 15 degrees Celsius combined with snowfall. However, the IndyCar fans sitting across the screen were in awe of the beautiful IMS in the snow as they took to X.
“This is one of the coolest things ever hahah,” a fan wrote,
“Doug Boles… ur the coolest person ever,” another fan said
“You might be cool, but you'll never be IMS President snowboarding around the oval cool…,” another user claimed.
Eric Graves took to the comment section of his tweet as he uploaded a picture with the IMS President J. Douglas Boles. The duo were covered in snow, and the reporter featured a sweater layered with a long coat. However, Boles, who was out on the track snowboarding, flaunted a short and a tie underneath his winter jacket.
“Also… OF COURSE Doug Boles would snowboard in a tie. In his words today “I do everything in a tie.” Prez can shred!”, mentioned Eric Graves.
“This is my dream, but on a skateboard with a rope tied to a dallara,” commented Chase Holden, host of the Speed Street podcast.
“I wanna see the indycar drivers doing this😭”, mentioned a fan
The 2025 season starts on February 2, 2025, at the Firestone Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg on the streets of Florida. The Greatest Spectacle in Motor racing, i.e. the Indy 500 is nearly another two months away from the debut race of 2025.
IMS President reacts to his snowboarding at the iconic IndyCar venue
The 2025 Indy 500 is scheduled to be hosted from May 13 to May 25, 2025, and will be the 109th running of the Greatest Spectacle in Motor Racing. Despite the race being over 100 days away, the IMS President took onto the track on a snowboard to promote the event. Boles’ reaction to his snowboarding at the IMS read,
“This amazing track never disappoints! And, even though we’re 136+ days from the @Indycar #Indy500 and 199 days from the @NASCAR #Brickyard400 and it’s covered in snow - we got some laps in! Now, bring on race cars!”
The 2024 Indy 500 broke the record for viewership with 13.3 Million total viewers on NBC and Universo. The event also had a reported attendance of 345,000 people
