Rinus VeeKay's wife posted a story on her Instagram giving an update about her boxing journey. Carmen VeeKay made her pro boxing match debut on 23rd November 2024. Carmen went on to win her maiden match and is now back in training mode. She recently posted an update on her Instagram story about her first training session since the match.
The caption of the story read:
“1st Boxing session after my fight”
She posted a picture of herself in athletic wear. She wore an all-black outfit with white shoes and held the white boxing gloves in hand. The picture also featured a Rival punching bag and a boxing speedball in the background.
Carmen VeeKay faced Siria Sánchez in her maiden boxing match and won with a unanimous decision. The match took place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and the boxer stayed in the country a few days after the match to celebrate the victory with her friends.
Rinus VeeKay uploaded a post on his Instagram as he celebrated and congratulated the maiden win of his wife. The IndyCar driver was present at the venue to cheer for her wife and shared pictures from the match in the Instagram post. The caption to the post read:
“SHE DID IT!!! Winning her pro debut with a unanimous decision. You worked so hard for this, I'm one proud husband.”
Carmen’s opponent Siria Sánchez had taken part in nine matches before the encounter with the Dutch boxer. The match became the eighth loss of Sánchez’s professional boxing career.
The Dutch boxer posted highlights from her boxing match on her Instagram account with the caption, “Can't wait to do this all over again soon.” However, Carmen VeeKay hasn't announced her next boxing matchup as of yet.
Her husband Rinus VeeKay, on the other hand, is still without a seat for the 2025 IndyCar season. However, the chances of signing for Dale Coyne Racing look promising.
“This is a really good group of people”: Rinus VeeKay speaks highly of Dale Coyne Racing after Indianapolis Motor Speedway test
Rinus VeeKay parted ways with Ed Carpenter Racing earlier this year. However, the Dutchman took part in the IMS test in October with DCR. He finished the day as the third fastest driver with Alex Palou and Josef Newgarden being the only driver to finish ahead of him. Rinus initially struggled with the balance but came onto his own by the end of the test.
The Dutchman spoke highly of the team as he said (via Indycar.com):
“I think this is a really good group of people (at DCR), and they had a pretty unstable year this year. But (this) shows that with the right plan, and the driver that brings experience on what it should feel like, I think we got a top-three car right here, like we showed.”
However, drivers like Romain Grosjean and Linus Lundqvist are still available on the market, making them a strong contender for the 2025 DCR lineup.
