Old pals IndyCar's Scott McLaughlin and NASCAR's Bubba Wallace recently reunited. This time, they took their friendship to the next generation by bringing their infants along with them.
On Tuesday, December 10, Bubba Wallace shared a collaboration post with Scott McLaughlin on Instagram with a photo of their children. Wallace's two-month-old son Becks was born on October 2 this year, and McLaughlin's daughter Lucy came along eight days later on October 10.
In the photo shared by the No. 23 NASCAR driver, Becks and Lucy were in their strollers. Lucy had a full-sleeved hoodie on and a beanie covering her head, while Becks' head and his hands were fully visible. Wallace found a funny resemblance between the two children's outfits and how NASCAR cars look during qualifying versus the race. He captioned the post:
"Taped up Q run vs Race run🤣🤣🤣 @smclaughlin93"
For the unversed, NASCAR teams use tape as an aero tool during qualifying sessions to cover the grille openings at the front of the car to maximize performance. They reduce the application of the tape during the race to avoid overheating of the engine.
McLaughlin reshared the post on his Instagram story along with two emojis to capture his reaction:
"💀😂"
The Team Penske driver also commented under the post with a witty wordplay. He wrote:
"Yeah we got water coming out of the hood here"
Ryan Blaney, who races for Team Penske's NASCAR arm and won the 2023 Cup Series, liked the post as well. In October, McLaughlin was also one of the first people to congratulate Bubba Wallace after his son's birth. He made a congratulatory comment under the 23XI Racing driver's Instagram post announcing Becks' arrival:
"The best !! Can’t wait to meet him"
Scott McLaughlin's sweet time being a "girl dad/uncle" to Lucy and his niece
Scott McLaughlin and his wife Karly welcomed their daughter nearly a month after the 2024 IndyCar season ended. The No.3 Chevy driver's adrenaline-filled racing was behind him, and his Instagram feed went from constant racing posts to celebrating Lucy's arrival.
On November 7, Karly's older sister, Taylor, and her husband spent time in the McLaughlin household and brought their infant daughter along. McLaughlin shared a series of cute photos from his day with the extended family. He captioned it:
"Love being a girl dad/uncle to my lil angels 💝👼"
McLaughlin and Karly have also shared several updates about Lucy - when she turned one month old, her first Halloween, and her first Thanksgiving.
In 2024, the Kiwi driver finished third in the IndyCar standings with 505 points and two wins. For next year, the Team Penske driver is eyeing victory in both the Indy 500 and the championship.
