IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin's wife, Karly, has shared a heartwarming post dedicated to their daughter, Lucy, ahead of the holidays. The couple welcomed their two-month-old at 6:12 pm on October 10 this year.
Karly recently reshared an Instagram post by Amanda Somerville, a wedding and lifestyle photographer who did a family photo shoot for them. Somerville captured the essence of this new sweet addition to the McLaughlin family by highlighting how their Christmas celebrations would change, captioning the post:
"Christmas is a lot more special this year for Scott & Karly 🤍✨"
Scott McLaughlin's wife shared the joy with her followers by resharing the post on her story with an endearing three-word caption for their daughter, Lucy. She wrote:
"Our perfect angel✨🙏💛"
The post also had photos of the couple's two photogenic dogs - Luna, a poodle, and Chase, a golden retriever. Scott McLaughlin also appreciated Somerville's work with a grateful comment under the post. He wrote:
"You were great. Thank you!!"
Lucy was the center of attraction in October when the Team Penske driver revealed her arrival to the world via an Instagram post, captioned:
"Lucy Violet McLaughlin came into our lives on 10/10/24 at 6:12pm✨ You are so much more than we could’ve ever dreamed of, we love you so much 💛💝"
McLaren F1 driver Oscar Piastri, to-be IndyCar driver Pietro Fittipaldi, and the official IndyCar account were among the sea of people congratulating them.
How Scott McLaughlin's wife Karly caught him in a white lie after their first meeting
Scott McLaughlin and his wife, Karly's first meeting, was fortuitous. The 3x Supercars champion was on a trip to Las Vegas to be a mechanic for his friend who was taking part in a go-kart tournament. On a boys' night out in Sin City, McLaughlin's friend invited a woman he knew, who, in turn, brought Karly along as her plus one.
In a social media video with Scott in 2020, Karly disclosed that their meeting led to 'love at first sight.' She also disclosed how her now-husband had her believe a white lie for a while. She said (via Supercars):
"We asked what each other did and you said you were a mechanic and I was like ‘oh OK, cool, whatever that means’. Next couple of days I followed him on social media and he had like 40,000 followers at the time and I’m like, ‘What?’ No one I knew has that many followers on Instagram, so I was like, ‘Oh weird.'"
"You were like, ‘Yeah, I’m actually a race car driver’ and I’m like, 'Oh.' Yeah, I didn’t really quite get it until I first visited in April and went to Phillip Island and then I was like, 'Oh, so you’re kind of like a big deal. You’re pretty good at this.'"
What was intended to be a boys' trip for McLaughlin turned into a four-day holiday with Karly. They got married in California in 2019.
In 2024, the 31-year-old finished third in the IndyCar standings with three wins and 505 points. The Kiwi racer now aims to conquer the open-wheel series in 2025 by taking both the Indy 500 crown and the championship home.
