Sergio Perez has said that he isn't interested in a stint with IndyCar once his F1 career is over. The Mexican has been on the Formula 1 grid for more than a decade after he started his career as a Ferrari development driver.

After years of being in F1, Perez got the call to race for a frontrunning team like Red Bull. He joined them in 2021 and has enjoyed tremendous success. He helped his teammate Max Verstappen clinch the drivers title in 2021 by blocking title rival Lewis Hamilton for a few laps.

Sergio Perez has also been playing a crucial role in Red Bull's commercial success in the North American region. There has, however, been a sword hanging over his head as his performances in the last couple of years haven't been up to par. The Mexican driver has struggled to keep up with Verstappen, and, in 2024, Perez's lack of performance could cost the team the constructors championship.

There's even a possibility that Sergio Perez could be out of F1 if things don't improve. If he leaves the pinnacle of motorsports, would he be interested in moving to a series like IndyCar? The racing series in America has become a home for many drivers who couldn't make it to Formula 1.

As quoted by Motorsport.com, though, that's something Sergio Perez isn't interested in. He said:

“Not really. 'If I’m honest, because I think one of the reasons I’ll stop the day when I stop, it’s because I’ve done it enough. I’ve done it enough at this level of F1.
"With the tight schedule that we have, I’d like to be able to, I’ve got some small kids at home, so I’d like to spend more time with them, with the family. I think it’s really hard to get what you used to get from F1, in that regard."

Sergio Perez shares why he doesn't want to compete in IndyCar

Sergio Perez said that his reservations come from the fact that while the series has drivers doing their jobs at the highest level, there are ones who are inexperienced.

Racing against them at high speeds is a risk he doesn't want to take, elaborating (as per the aforementioned source):

"I really respect what they do in Indy, but the way I see it is like after, hopefully, that I’m able to finish my career without any injury or something like that. I think going into Indy, I have a lot of respect for what the drivers do.
"At the same time, there are drivers that are not very experienced in the series and doing those sorts of speeds, and having that sort of impact is not something that I’m willing to do once I finish my career."

If Perez changes his mind and moves to IndyCar, his fellow Mexican Pato O'Ward, who's already an established driver in the series, might love to have his compatriot on the grid.
