IndyCar has released a hilariously creative promotional video featuring two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden and NFL legend Tom Brady. This promo is the first of several to follow as a part of FOX Sports' inaugural season as the racing series' official broadcasting partner after replacing NBC Sports.
The video begins with a voiceover amusingly describing Newgarden's extraordinary racing abilities and his looks. At the midpoint of the 45-second promo, a clip of some software analyzing the symmetry of his face pops up, with the voiceover going:
"He might have the greatest jawline in sports."
Immediately after it, 7-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady, worth $300 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), makes a cameo, acting enviously and saying:
"He's not that handsome."
The promo begins and ends with the same line: "This is Josef Newgarden."
In 2022, Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with FOX Sports to become the broadcaster's lead commentator post-retirement. His appearance alongside Newgarden in the IndyCar promo comes as the next big step in FOX using NFL properties and entities to promote IndyCar.
In December, FOX also shot more promotional content with defending IndyCar champ Alex Palou and the series' most popular driver, Pato O'Ward. The content will be aired throughout January and February during NFL playoff games in the lead-up to the IndyCar season opener at St. Petersburg on March 2.
Josef Newgarden has full faith in FOX Sports creating a "dream scenario" for IndyCar's growth
Josef Newgarden won the Indy 500 consecutively in 2023 and 2024. With his eyes on a three-peat at the event this year, he has become the face of IndyCar. Hence, his involvement in FOX Sports' promos.
In December last year, the Team Penske driver spoke about the headway FOX made early into its IndyCar partnership.
"From my vantage point, I think Fox has already hit the ground running when it comes to 2025. There's not been a lot of prep time for everybody, but we are coming in with full force and I think Fox will be pivotal in our championship and what IndyCar represents in this story that we're gonna be projecting. I think they will do our championship justice. I think they will show our stories in a great way and they'll bring it to a wider audience," Josef Newgarden said on the Pit Pass Indy podcast. Newgarden addressed FOX's NFL x IndyCar crossovers, adding:
"Well, for us right now, it's the dream scenario. Fox is a tremendous TV partner and I think they will operate for us in true partnership fashion, where they're gonna listen and collaborate and try and extend the rest of their family for us to tell our story and IndyCar."
As part of the new partnership, NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan was also announced as the honorary pace car driver for the 109th Indy 500 on May 25, 2025.
