What made Scott Dixon and Emma Davies tie the knot despite an underwhelming date? Exploring the coincidental reunion that brought them together

Scott Dixon and his wife, Emma Davies' marriage didn't stem from love at first sight. Instead, their first meeting was rather bland and didn't lead to a follow-up date till fate led to their paths crossing again years later.

The Dixon we see on the IndyCar tracks is a fearless driver pushing his boundaries. With six championships to his name, his driving and results speak for him. However, off the track, he was shy and reserved, according to Emma, when the two met in the early 2000s.

Speaking in April 2016, Emma said (via IndyCar),

"It goes quite far back, my and Scott’s story. We met through a mutual friend. He was quiet. He was this super-shy guy and I wasn’t very friendly."

This combination led to an underwhelming encounter, and radio silence followed from both ends. A few years later, in March 2006, the same mutual friend set them up for another outing when Scott Dixon was visiting London, where Emma was working as a presenter for Sky TV. This time around, the Chip Ganassi Racing driver switched his approach, with some help.

Emma said,

"I could tell he’d had some Dutch courage. He had a little red wine smile. We just really connected. My friend literally left me. She said, ‘I’m going to leave you to it.’ We were getting on that well. We were smitten after the second day."

The relationship between them became stronger over time and Emma moved to America to be with Dixon. In December 2006, they got engaged. The couple got married in February 2008.

Emma Davies knew the ins and outs of the sporting world even before dating Scott Dixon. She was a professional track star and a British 800m champion. She was also romantically involved with ex-IndyCar driver Tomas Scheckter. Incidentally, the first time she met Dixon was with Scheckter. Even then, she found her now-husband 'shy and moody and quiet'.

But things changed after they met in 2006. After that, the power couple never looked back. In 2018, they completed a decade of togetherness. In November 2018, speaking about their time together, Emma said (via IndyCar),

"It’s a pretty perfect life. I don’t think we have bad moments. We’re living the dream. Our kids are doing really well, and Scott does what he loves. I hope it lasts for as long as it can. We are incredibly lucky. We come from similar backgrounds, so everything else is such a blessing for us."

The couple has three children together, daughters Poppy and Tilly and son Kit. Emma is often at IndyCar races supporting her six-time champion husband.
