The Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) held a General Body Meeting on 23rd August 2018 during the Kabaddi event of Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia in aspect to elect a new president. Janardhan Singh Gehlot got declared as the Asian Kabaddi Federation(AKF) for the term 2018-2022. The decision is stated to be 'unanimous' since Janardhan Singh Gehlot couldn't attend the meeting because of poor health condition.
The controversy regarding no transparency in Indian Kabaddi Team's selection of both men's and women's team and AKFI's misleading conducts within the system has blown away the Kabaddi world.
The Indian men's team was the first time bronze medalists in 28 years as they held the gold medal since 1990. The women's team walked back home with a silver medal at both the men's and women's team were defeated by Iran in the playoffs.
Delhi High Court on 3rd August 2018 declared the elections for Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) presidency as invalid and questioned the selection process of the team which had a jaw-dropping outing in the Asiad event of 2018.
Retired IAS Officer (1972), Sanat Kaul was handed the administration of AKFI to run the AKFI activities until further notice. Sanat Kaul immediately took a call against Mridul Bhadauria to give back all the financial perks which she gained during her involvement with AKFI.
Mridul Bhadauria appealed for a stay in the Supreme Court after Delhi HC removed her's and her husband's involvement with the AKFI. However, the Supreme Court showed no remorse as all applications made by the former presidents got rejected.
Supreme Court claimed that the family had been running a self-biased authority which is an abuse of the position. Adv. Bharat Nagar revealed the sources to the media that the Supreme Court took this decision without issuing any notices.
The charges made by the petitioners were against issuance of fake certificates, taking money from the players for a place in the team, sexual harassment and running Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) and International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) as parallel structures.
As per the announcement made by Delhi HC, the Indian Kabaddi men's and women's Team will play a trial match which will be observed by the selectors of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The Delhi HC on the observation of video clips of the upcoming match will make further announcements regarding the transparency issues of team selection. It will take place in Thyagraj Complex, Delhi on 15th September 2018. The electoral colleges distributed across all states of India as a fresh new election for a new President is bound to take place within six months of announcement.
