Although it is not as popular outside South Asia, the historic game has always been welcomed and loved by Indians. With a mix of red Rover, wresting and tag, kabaddi was overshadowed by the modern day sports. However, kabaddi, which is older than many other popular sports like cricket and hockey, has started to grow in popularity over the last few years.
Few years back, if someone had told an Inter-state kabaddi tournament will get so much attention, not many would have believed. But the historic game is now experiencing its resurgence period since the launch of Pro Kabaddi League.
Many doubted the idea of a Kabaddi tournament with so many leagues trying to emulate IPL's franchise-based model. However, the historic game attracted a huge number of fans.
The senior national Kabaddi championship, an Inter-state competition in India, was not an eye-catching event till a few years back. Now, the above-mentioned tournament is getting all the attention among fans in the country as they look forward to the start of the much-anticipated tournament.
What can we expect?
The championship will see some of the stars of the national team like Pardeep Narwal, Manjeet Chhillar and Anup Kumar. In spite of the big names, the tournament will also see a number of youngsters trying to showcase their talent.
The championship is sure to pave the way for many budding talents to take charge of the game and show the nation what they have got, in order to get a call-up from the national team.
