A still from last season’s match between Dabang Delhi (blue/red) and Bengal Warriors (orange)

Ever since the Dabangs beat Puneri Paltans yesterday, there has been this aura around them. The clash seemed to have hardly had an effect as they prepare to step on court again – this time against the hosts – Bengal Warriors. One glance at coach Honnappa C Gowda and his boys and we know how buoyed and upbeat they are ahead of facing an opponent who they comprehensively beat in their last fixture (46-36 at Thyagraj sports Complex, Delhi).

“The team has gelled really well,” asserted Honnappa. “From what we saw yesterday, our boys have adapted well to marquee player-Surjeet Narwal’s absence. The 2 raiders- Kashiling and Rohit were exemplary, and needless to say shall hold key again today.”

Local boy Amit Chillar and he supplemented the experienced Jasmer Gulia well in defense. Talking ahead of the match, the lad from Delhi emphasized on how strong the team was feeling, “We came to Kolkata prepared. It’s been a great 3 weeks training with the team and our new coach. While the first game was an aberration, there is absolutely no doubt in mind that we are a much improved unit now. The results too shall follow suit. About the warriors, we played them last season too and I agree they are a good team, but we are prepared too.”

The youngster from Nizampur village from the capital had accumulated 39 points for the Dabangs last season and vows to improve on that too, “Definitely (about improving); I have been working a lot with the coach and senior players and that has helped me enormously. Last night I was glad to contribute in our team’s win, hopefully I will continue doing the same.”

A source close to the team added that the morale in the camp was further boosted by U Mumba’s win last night. The Warriors, as was evident, choked. Synonymous to the South African cricket team, that augurs well for their opponents, in this case, the Dabangs. They, as was evident by how thet took to the courts, will leave no stone unturned to take advantage of any chink in their opponents’ armour.
