Welcome everyone to the 36th match of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi. The tensions are rising in all the camps as we approach the business end of the tournament. Up against the home team in the first match in the City of Joy will be the Pink Panthers of Jaipur.
Although, it’s going to be a contest between the table toppers and a team that hasn’t been able to rise from bottom position in the table, there are no guarantees in the game of kabaddi and Bengal’s performance in the last game gave a glimpse of what they are capable of. The Warriors from Bengal will also be expected to put up a better show in front of their home crowds who have come in big numbers to back their team right from the first season.
The Panthers are coming off a hard fought match where they went down fighting against U Mumba. And that’s why the match will be crucial for the team as they will look to put their campaign back on track with a win. The fitness of Shabeer Bapu will be a concern for the team as the former U Mumba star was ineffective in his comeback against U Mumba in the last match. In fact, the Panthers looked like a man short as Bapu could neither contribute in defence or with his raids.
Barring their games against U Mumba, the Panthers have had a season they would be proud of. The team’s defence needs a little tweaking but the raiding department can’t be in safer hands than those of Jasvir Singh and Rajesh Narwal. However, while the skipper has proved to be the major strength for the Panthers, the opponents have learned by now that keeping him quiet often causes panic in the Jaipur ranks.
Abhishek Bacchan’s team, however, don’t have a record worth boasting about against the Warriors as they have lost more games than they have won against them. The last time these two teams met, the Warriors were leading till the 38th minute of the game when they committed a hara-kiri that cost them the game as they went on to lose the match by 3 points. That’s why Panthers will be wary of Warriors despite their position on the points table.
Although the Warriors managed only a tie in their last match against Puneri Paltan, which they should have won, they will be high on confidence. The team showed the hunger, albeit only in the first twenty minutes, that was missing in their campaign in the first half. The team will be looking to not think of the result and enjoy themselves in front of their home crowds who’ll be desperately hoping them to put up a good show.
Will we see a rejuvenated Bengal in Kolkata or will the Panthers manage to improve their record against Bengal? The answer will be with us in about an hour. Don’t leave your seats.
