Defending champions Puneri Paltan will compete in Pune for the first time in Pro Kabaddi League 2024 tonight (Tuesday, December 3). They will square off against arch-rivals U Mumba in the 'Maha Derby' match from 9 pm IST onwards at the Balewadi Sports Complex.

Puneri Paltan have been a bit inconsistent this season. Regular captain Aslam Inamdar's absence has hurt Pune, but new skipper Akash Shinde has shown promise. The defending champions beat the in-form Gujarat Giants in their previous match under Akash's captaincy.

On the other side, U Mumba have had a season full of ups and downs. The skipper went into Gujarat's half 17 times and returned with a point on 11 occasions. Only three of his raids were unsuccessful, showing that the Gujarat defense had little idea how to stop the opposition skipper. Eight out of the 12 points scored by Akash were touch points. This will be the second time Puneri Paltan will battle U Mumba in Pro Kabaddi League 2024. In the previous meeting between the two teams, Puneri Paltan beat U Mumba by 35-28, and the difference between the two sides was Pune's right-corner defender Gaurav Khatri, who scored seven points.

Khatri did not allow the U Mumba raiders to raid freely as he executed six successful tackles, including one super tackle. Although Khatri is no longer the number one defender of PKL 11, he can bounce back in style with a match-winning performance in front of the home fans tonight.
