U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar has broken Fazel Atrachali's all-time record for the most victories as a skipper in Pro Kabaddi League history. Earlier tonight, December 3, Kumar won his 74th match as a captain in PKL while leading U Mumba against Puneri Paltan.
Before the battle between U Mumba and Puneri Paltan, Sunil Kumar jointly held the number one position on the all-time list with Fazel Atrachali. Both captains had 73 wins each, but Sunil has overtaken Fazel to become the most successful skipper now.
At the start of PKL 11, Kumar had 65 victories to his name as a skipper, while Atrachali had won 71 matches as captain. Atrachali is leading Bengal Warriors this season, and he has only managed three wins in 14 matches. On the other side, Kumar led U Mumba to their ninth victory of the tournament, thereby breaking Atrachali's record.
U Mumba are currently third in the points table, with seven more league games remaining. It should not be a surprise if Sunil ends PKL 11 as the most successful captain in the league's history.
Sunil Kumar led U Mumba from the front in their win against Puneri Paltan
Talking about the match where Sunil broke Fazel Atrachali's record, the U Mumba captain led his franchise from the front by scoring a High 5. It was Sunil's first High 5 of the season as his five tackle points powered U Mumba to a 43-29 win against defending champions Puneri Paltan.
It is pertinent to note that Puneri Paltan led by 19-16 at halftime, but U Mumba made a brilliant comeback to win the match by 14 points eventually. Left raider Ajit Chouhan top-scored for U Mumba with 12 points. Left corner Sombir chipped in with a High 5 to ensure Puneri Paltan lost their first match in front of their home fans in PKL 2024.
